SmartCompany accepts guest contributions from small business owners, startup founders, managers, entrepreneurs, investors and relevant subject matter experts.
Guest contributors have the option of writing for SmartCompany, or our premium subscriber-only content, SmartCompany Plus. The former houses all our free-to-read content, whereas the latter is our subscription offering of practical tools and advice, available to paying subscribers.
The guest contributions published within SmartCompany are opinion-based and focused on, or linked to, the news cycle. They are short, sharp and to the point, and have a topical and time-sensitive element to them.
Some examples of SmartCompany guest contributions are listed below.
SmartCompany Plus guest contributions are unique in that they are not newsy but evergreen, are longer and more in-depth, and offer practical and specific advice to business owners.
These can be short, line-by-line pieces that function as ‘how to’ guides, or longer pieces that explain how a certain segment of business practice works. We are also seeking templates, high-quality HTML embeddable tools and infographics.
Each piece should leave the reader with an understanding of how to tackle a task.

Please note, we prioritise guest contributions written by the owners and founders of Australian small businesses and startups.
SmartCompany guest contributions should be 400-1000 words.
SmartCompany guest contributions cannot be promotional. This means being one step removed from your business and your product, service or offering. We’re happy for you to talk about your industry or what you have deep expertise in, as long as you aren’t effectively saying your product or service is the number one solution for people in that industry.
Guest contributions must be original and exclusive to SmartCompany. This means the piece is not being published by another media outlet.
